Going from summer fun to back to school schedules, homework and activities is always quite the transition so today I’m sharing 7 easy tips to implement in your routine now so when the new school year starts, it will be that much easier.

This school year may look a bit different to quite a few of us, especially if we end up homeschooling, but all of these tips will help keep your kids on track whether they are headed back to the school setting or you’re taking on the teacher role at home.

Set aside reading time every day

With it being summer, I’m sure all your kids want to do is play, play, play! But setting aside a specific time for reading will keep your kids on track when school is back in session.

Have your kids pick out their own outfits every day

If you’re a work from home parent, I’m sure you can understand how easy it is to hang out in your comfiest clothes and start your work, but I’ve found for most, that getting dressed and ready for the day can help you feel even more productive which I think is true for kids too!

Have them help you make their lunch

Don’t make it a chore as much as a fun activity for them to help you do! I give Layla a choice of two things and she decides what she wants and then helps me make it, so it could be grabbing ingredients from the fridge or putting peanut butter on the bread.

“Pack” their lunchboxes

There is something about those little compartments that make eating much more fun! Layla had fun decorating hers and then when we make lunch together, she loves to put the food in the compartments. For some reason, when we put the food in there, she eats way more than if I just put it on a plate!

Keep a designated spot for snacks

Create a snack station for your kids

“Mommy can I have a snack?” Is a frequently asked question in my house and instead of getting up to get her a snack each time, I made a little “snack station” and put these little containers of snacks that she can choose from.

I’m always looking for healthy (and tasty) snacks for my kids that they can grab on their own and snack when they need which is why I’m such a huge fan of RXBAR’s brand new RX Kids Protein Snack Bars!

They are made with real, simple ingredients like gluten free oats, egg whites, and dates. I love them and most importantly Layla loves them! Her favorite is Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip but Strawberry is a close second!

Go School Supply Shopping

Even if you might be home schooling this upcoming school year, it’s always nice to start the school year with some fresh new pencils and folders! We make school shopping a fun trip and even shopping online has been really fun for us! Layla has been loving being able to pick things out on the computer and gets so excited when packages start to arrive in the mail for her.

Create a homework station

I still have Layla do school work even during the summer so I carved out a corner for her to do homework and crafts. We keep all her school and art supplies in one place (which helps keep things organized). It’s nice to have a specific area just dedicated to learning so that we can add fun things to do (like color or draw) without getting distracted from her other toys or the TV.

This will come in handy during the school year so that when teachers assign schoolwork, your child will have a spot that they know where to go to to complete their assignments or homework.

And of course, make sure to have snacks like RX Kids handy!
