Ankle pants can be a tricky thing to style as they hit your leg at a very specific length.

First style tip: You want to be sure that you choose the right shoes that enhance the cropped look, while continuing to elongate your leg without cutting it off right at the ankle.

In order to style them properly, here are my top tips!

Tips to pairing shoes with ankle pants

Elongate – If you want to wear ankle boots with your ankle pants, be sure they aren’t too high or chunky.

Ankle boots can cut off the leg in an unflattering way, so you want to be sure that the shaft height comes up past the ankle bone so that they don’t shorten your leg.

Being aware of where the top of your boot hits at your ankle is a major tip to remember!

Make a Statement – You can go bold with ankle pants as they lend extra space to show off a statement style shoes!

Whether it’s a fun patent loafer or sparkly booties, go bold and wear something that makes you feel confident.

Be Aware of Colors – Colors can help to make an outfit more flattering! For example, when pairing dark colored ankle pants with a light top, match the color of your shoe to the darker colors in your pants to elongate your legs.

The same goes if you are wearing a dark colored top and light colored ankle pants, it is best to match the color of your shoe with the lighter color of your pants to continue the lean line.

Different types of ankle length pants

Ankle length pants are a chic pant style that is perfect for so many different occasions.

From cropped boyfriend jeans to run errands, to ankle length trousers for the office or going out on the town, they are flattering to the leg and ultra stylish.

Typically with ankle length pants, the length of the leg stops right at the ankle bone level.

This cropped pant length lends space between the hem of the pants and your feet, and are a great option for petite ladies!

Straight leg jeans

Cropped jeans are a must have ankle-length pant as we all know denim is such an easy go to for so many looks.

I love to opt for a straight leg style as opposed to skinny jeans as I feel it flatters the leg more with the ankle-length fit.

Trousers

Flattering trousers are a wardrobe staple for so many reasons.

Whether you get a sleek pair of black pants or a fun printed plaid, trousers can be worn for so many occasions and have an effortlessly chic vibe. You can wear them for a business meeting or event, but also for date night and happy hour.

They also look great with white sneakers & a leather jacket worn throughout the day!

Flared Leggings

Flared leggings are trending right now and they are such a great way to add another ankle length pant into your rotation!

Pair them with sneakers and you can find really fun varieties like this one that has the split hem detail. Those would be so cute paired with cozy boots in the winter.

Boyfriend Jeans

Slouchy boyfriend jeans are the perfect ankle-length pant option.

I typically roll mine to hit at ankle length if they don’t already fit that way, and they look so cute paired with all different kinds of shoes depending on the occasion.

So many casual outfits can be worn with these.

Black Cropped Denim

I love how sleek black denim looks and aa good cropped paired is a must have.

Whether you pair them with an oversized sweater and a pair of boots, or a blazer and heels, these are an essential in your wardrobe.

Wide Leg Pants

Wide leg pants are SO flattering to all body types and the ankle length fit really enhances your silhouette.

Whether you opt for cozy knit wide leg pants, or chic ivory white leg denim, the options are endless on how to style wide leg pants in the winter.

The best shoes to wear with ankle pants

When it comes to choosing the best shoes to wear with ankle pants, there are a lot of different ways that will work!

You can dress them up with heels or boots, or wear them more casually with oxfords or sneakers — it truly depends on how casual or dressy you want your look to be.

Ankle booties:

One of my favorite type of shoe to wear during the winter seasons with ankle length pants is a pair of ankle boots or booties.

These come in many different styles from pointed toe, to sock booties, to chelsea boots, the list goes on Ankle boots are the perfect match for the length of ankle pants as they both hit right at the ankle bone, creating a seamless transition from your pants to the top of your boot.

Sock boots would also be a similar option.

Tall Boots:

Another great boot option for winter and pairing with ankle pants is tall boots!

Boots with a higher shaft can seamlessly tuck under the ankle pants for an ultra chic look.

Whether you have knee-high boots or OTK boots, my key tip is to opt for a tall boot that fits snug to the leg to not lend any extra bulk under your ankle pants.

Loafers:

Loafers may be my ultimate favorite shoe to pair with ankle pants, as the cropped length of the pants lends the perfect window for cute loafers to be on display.

They are truly a match made in heaven. Loafers come flat or heeled, so depending on your personal preference.

Loafers are perfect for the office or a day out shopping, as they are super comfortable yet stylish at the same time. An excellent everyday wear for the winter months.

Sneakers:

Whether it’s sleek low top white sneakers or high-top sneakers, you will want a good pair of sneakers to pair with ankle pants.

Sneakers are comfortable yet still stylish, and they are truly so easy to style with all kinds of ankle pants.

I love the look of high-top sneakers that lend the higher shaft height, but also love to show off a low top fun sneakers with a pair of cropped pants.

Ballet Flats: A flat shoe is another good option to wear with a cropped pant because they come in many different styles and colors.

The right pair of flats are comfortable to wear all day, and look great paired with ankle pants as they are ultra flattering to the foot.

Pointed toe flats and ballet flats for an easy option that goes with so many pant styles.

Heels: Heels are another great option to wear with ankle pants because they elongate the leg and make you look taller.

This is such a great feature with the ankle length pant as you want to extend the leg instead of cutting it off at the ankle.

Whether it’s pointed toe heels or kitten heels, a good pair of high heels can take your ankle pants from day to night.

You can opt for block heels in the winter as the heel is a bit sturdier.
