When looking to find the perfect pair of sunglasses for your face, the first step is determining your face shape. You can have a square face shape, oval face, heart face or a round face shape.
Round face shapes can be trickier to find flattering fits for as they are typically wider, so here I am sharing my tips and tricks to find the best sunglasses for a round face shape!

All face shapes vary slightly, but there are certain characteristics to each shape to help you determine yours.
Round faces can often be confused with oval faces. Here are the most common factors for a round face shape:
- Fuller cheeks
- Rounded chin/jawline with few angles
- Your widest point of your face is your cheekbones
- Your jaw and forehead that roughly have the same width
- The length of your face is not longer than the width
If you’re still not sure whether you have a round face or another similar face shape, I recommend looking at celebrity photos and determining who has a similar shape to you.
This also helps to visualize what looks good and what does not look good on your specific shape before you even try on any sunglasses on yourself.

To contrast your soft features and the roundness of your face, the best option for sunglasses is a pair that features angular lines to compliment your facial features.
You want to avoid super round sunglasses and instead opt for for geometric shapes with sharp angles such as square frames, rectangular frames or even cat-eye frames.
Rectangular and Square Frames
Rectangle and square frames are my number 1 pick when it comes to finding the best sunglasses for round face shapes.
A rectangular frame shape has the sharper angles that help to accentuate your features, and ultimately help to length the appearance of your face giving longer and leaner lines.
Black frames are a classic and and can go with every outfit, so it’s a must to have at least one pair in your wardrobe.
Square shape glasses also help to add angles to soft features and balance out the face.
Oversized square sunglasses really help to accentuate your cheek bones and make your face appear longer and thinner. If you need an easy go-to, opt for boxy frames!
Wayfarer-Style Frames
If you are looking for a true traditional and classic style, Wayfarer frames are the best glasses for you.
Wayfarer-style frames are best for round faces as they flatter prominent features and often have a flat or minimally curved brow line, that offers those sharper angles that we are looking for to offset soft features.
Wayfarer styles became more popular due to the Ray Ban brand as seen above, but can be found virtually anywhere sunglasses are sold these days.
This style above is from Amazon and is an oversized look to the classic wayfarer frame. I absolutely adore this style and the fun frame color.
For any sunglasses, don’t forget to look for the UV protection as it’s an essential for everyone!
Cat-Eye Frames
Cat-eye glasses are an ultra flattering and popular pick for rounder face shapes and works great for oval face shapes too.
The exaggerated points create a lifting effect that is elongating for round faces.
I love the vintage look and retro feel that this style lends to any outfit as well. It feels ultra feminine and bold, while still looking classic.

My tip to choosing the best aviator frames for a round face is to opt for a more angular styles as opposed to a curved tear drop style.
The angular lines are more flattering, while still giving that classic aviator feel.
You can see that this style above has more of those geometric lines instead of being so fluid like the classic aviator.
This is what you want to look for when choosing aviators to compliment your round face shape.
This style looks great in tortoise frames as they work well on any skin tone. Aviators also come in metal frames which can look great as well if you are wanting a more sleek look.
Oversized Frames
The bigger the better remains true in finding the best sunglasses! Oversized sunglasses can work for so many face shapes.
Bigger frames typically are more flattering in general as they give the illusion of a smaller, leaner face shape, so can help if you feel that you have full cheeks.
I love to opt for bigger frames as they tend to work best for round faces as they contrast the soft features.
You can find so many different options in oversized frames in various shapes, vibrant colors and styles.
They have tons of full-rimmed frames and colorful frames to choose from to really fit your own personality.
Oversized frames are my favorite personally on my face.
No matter the style I choose from, I opt for the oversized wide fit to lean out my face shape.
It’s a win win as the wider frames also lend more protection from the sun.
