This is a great comfortable look, yet still so chic. Midi-length dresses are great for petite ladies. If you are on the shorter side, maxi lengths can typically be too long.

This knit midi length dress with knee high boots is such a chic look!! I love the black leather boots to contrast off the knit style but really most boot styles would work with this outfit.

If you don’t have a knit dress you could always recreate something similar with knit pencil skirts and a sweater tucked into it! This look would be cute with ankle boots as well.

Bodycon dress with knee high boots:

If you’re looking to wear knee high boots for date night I think a body con dress and a long cardigan is the best choice! It is sexy but still cute and cozy and really flattering. I love it styled like the above with all black and the white sweater. A black dress is always my go to for date night and it is just such an easy way to be dressed up for a night out while still being comfortable!

Sweater dress with knee high boots:

If you don’t have a great sweater dress that you love that is one essential piece I think every woman needs for Fall/winter and it is my favorite way to wear knee high boots! You could create this look with an oversized knit sweater as well!

The chunky knit instantly gives me fall feels and is truly the perfect fall pairing. You can layer it with a long coat, a long cardigan, a moto jacket, flannel shirt or just on it’s own! I love the all neutral color palette shown above.

I hope this helped provide inspiration with what dresses to wear with knee high boots!

The sleeves on the tops shown add a nice feminine and flowy detail that really complements the tighter fit of the pencil skirt.

#3 Plaid/Flannel Shirt

Pairing a pencil skirt with a plaid shirt is such an effortlessly fun way to style it. I love this combination and how she knotted it below to show her lace top underneath – so cute!

It’s really easy to work with different top combinations and with the right accessories you are set for work to happy hour!

Knotting a simple t-shirt is a great way to amp up simple basics. I love it paired with nude booties for a cute fall look.

This knotted technique would look great with a graphic tee, tie-dye tee or tank top as well.

The long black skirt with the slit is great as it also makes it easier to walk in! Both of these are a staple piece that you’ll wear a lot with other pieces as well.

It’s the perfect casual look if you wear it with sneakers and add a baseball cap!

Dress up a sweatshirt with a faux leather pencil skirt and heels!

I love this way of styling a pencil skirt because it feels put together and not too forced. This would be another outfit that would be totally great to wear to the office or even if you work from home! Comfortable but still put together.

I’d love this styled with a chic wool coat and scarf for cooler months as well.

#8 Add a belt

The use of belts really helps to accentuate your natural curves or give you the illusion of curves. The belt really accentuates the flattering fit of the higher waist on a pencil skirt.

When styling with a belt I would stick to more neutral colors overall and let the belt be the focus. I love the oversized gold buckle as shown in the inspiration photo below.

This would also be cute if you have a designer belt that you want to showcase!

#9 Graphic Tee

Graphic t-shirts can be styled in so many ways, and with a pencil skirt is no exception! This is the perfect Fall outfit.

I love it with the cute little bag and the pointed toe suede booties as shown in the photo below. This would also be really cute with a faux leather pencil skirt.

#10 Silky Cami

A silky cami really elevates a black pencil skirt. Top it with a blazer for office wear and on it’s own for a cocktail party. This would also be great if you had a bodysuit with this type of silky material to pair with the pencil skirt.

#11 White Tee and Denim Jacket

This is one of my favorite ways to style a pencil skirt! So easy and you likely already have all of these items in your closet.

Just choose your favorite white tee/tank and go-to denim jacket. Add heels, boots, flats, sneakers or whatever else fits best for your occasion and you’re good to go!

Pairing a black pencil skirt with a top, coat and shoes in the same color is so chic! This is a street style look that is easy to replicate and really is stylish.

#16 Trench Coat

Pairing a trench coat over a pencil skirt is another one of my favorite ways to style it! It looks so chic (I love the olive color in the inspiration photo shown below) and is great for Fall coming up. It would also be cute with a crop top underneath the trench coat!

#17 Cardigan and Knee High Boots

A great option for the modern fashionista – wearing a cardigan all buttoned up as a top and pairing with knee high boots.

#18 Floral Blouse

A floral blouse is something you typically already have in your style and it adds feminine little details and a pop of color to a simple pencil skirt!

The possibilities are endless with floral blouses just based on the silhouette of the various tops – I think an off the shoulder style would also be so pretty!

You could also pick polka dots or stripes as a fun print with the pencil skirt if the floral option isn’t your style!

#18 Knotted Button Down and a Hat

I love the idea of doing a knotted button down for an effortless feel with a pencil skirt. As seen below, she styled it with simple scrappy heels and a cute hat! This would be a great outfit to transition into Fall weather.

9 super easy ways to wear dresses in the winter and not freeze

Wearing dresses in winter is typically not the go-to due to cold weather, but I have rounded up some style tips on how to change that! When you are strategic with layers and/or accessories, you can make your dresses warmer and way more comfortable to wear during winter.

If you want to get the most of our dresses year round, read on to get inspired on how to make your dresses work for you. Yes, you can stay warm and chic even while bundled up!

9 STYLE TIPS TO WEARING DRESSES IN WINTER AND MAKING DRESSES WARMER

9 STYLE TIPS TO WEARING DRESSES IN WINTER AND MAKING DRESSES WARMER:

Don’t be afraid to take out your summer dresses! They actually work great for the winter because you can layer very easily!

1. Add Layers and then add more layers

This dress I’m wearing below is a great summer staple – it’s a comfy stretchy cotton and it’s sleeveless – but it also makes a great winter staple because you can layer so much!

I’m wearing a long cardigan and then another long duster jacket over it to add extra warmth.

wearing layers over a dress with over the knee boots in the winter

2. Layer a long sleeve shirt underneath your dress

Adding a long sleeve shirt underneath your dress will turn your short sleeve/sleeveless dress into a winter ready style. The warmth from the sleeves goes a long way and is stylish.

wearing boots and layers over a dress in the winter

I went an extra step here and layered underneath my dress as well as adding a cardigan over it!

LONG DUSTER CARDIGAN

If you don’t like the look of the long sleeves under the dress, this is a great way to cover it you can easily add another layer with your jacket!

3. Add outerwear layers on top of your dress

Of course the best part about winter dressing is the cute layers! Put your jackets, coats, sweaters and blazers to good use and layer them on top of your dress. I love how this makes a dress look more elevated.

faux fur coat with dress in the winter

The winter is the perfect time to bring out all your faux fur! Not only is it warm, it just look so chic!

Don’t forget your vests!

If you know that you won’t be outside for too long or that you’ll be able to run inside quickly, grab your vest! It’s way less bulky but will still keep you warm.

I love puffy vests and they go with everything!

wearing a vest over a dress in the winter

If you think a vest might be too bulky, try a cropped vest! It still keeps you warm but you can fit a thicker sweater dress underneath it still.

CROPPED PUFFER VEST

Bonus tip: do the same for your kids!

This is definitely a good mom tip as well. My daughters always get too hot when they head anywhere indoors that has heat, so guess who ends up holding all the coats? Yup, mom!

So instead of having to deal with that, we’ve made the compromise of wearing a vest and keeping it on which has worked so well!

Dressing your kids for the winter can be tough too so make sure to check out some more cute warm outfit ideas for kids!

4. Replace your tights with fleece lined leggings

You can’t beat leggings. They’re comfy and you can toss anything over them! But don’t be afraid to ditch the leggings in winter!

When winter rolls in, it’s time to swap your tights for thicker fleece lined leggings.

They give a really similar look but give so much more warmth! Fleece leggings are great to wear all through the season so it’s a great item that will get a lot of use.

wearing a dress in the winter

When the cold temps roll around I’m excited to break these leggings out! I love how soft and comfy they are. And the best part, they are easy to wear with boots as you don’t have to worry about things bunching up like you do when you wear jeans.

FLEECE LINED LEGGINGS

If you love leggings as much as I do, don’t miss these tips on how to wear winter outfits with leggings.

These leggings are the best ones that I’ve found (and it also have 8,000 five star ratings!)

5. Wear a slip underneath

I love this tip as I feel like it is not as common these days but so helpful! Slips underneath dresses help so that the dress fabric does not stick to your legs, and also adds another layer of warmth in colder months.

A basic slip works great, but if you want to add a little bit more to your dresses, get a slip that fits a bit longer and has a fun hem like this lace hem slip.

6. Layer scarves on top

I love big scarves and they are perfect to add on top of dresses in the winter. You can wear them more classic styled around your neck, or even as a poncho style draped over your shoulders.

I tend to go for more neutral colors for my scarves as they pair so well with most of my winter wardrobe. But don’t be afraid of color! It’s always fun to add a bright pop of color when your jacket and your boots are black.

7. Wear your dress as a tunic and pair with leather leggings or denim

I love turning some of my shorter dresses into a tunic style blouse! It’s a great way to get more use out of items in your closet. Just pair them with your favorite skinny denim or leather leggings for a sleek look.

8. Wear taller boots with your dress

This is for my fellow over the knee boots lovers.

These boots are the best in the winter as they cover most of your leg and are a lot warmer than booties/flats.

I also love the look of higher boots with dresses, it feels elevated and stylish.

wearing a dress in the winter with over the knee boots

If you are short like me, find dresses that run on the shorter side so you can still be a little bit of skin between where the dress ends and the boots begin.

One of my pet peeves are over the knee boots that do not stay up! Make sure to find ones that are snug to your legs or have ways of tightening them to your legs.

OVER THE KNEE BOOTS

These over the knee boots are my go-to’s. Although they are on the pricey side, but because I can wear them year after year, the price per wear is actually quite good!

9. Wear a pullover sweater or sweatshirt on top of your dress

This is so fun as it turns your dress into a skirt! Just pair a cute pullover sweater or sweatshirt on top of your dress and you have a whole new look!

You can use this method for day or night outfits.

FUNNEL NECK SWEATER

It almost feels like you double your wardrobe when you do this!

wearing A SWEATER ON TOP OF DRESS in the winter

A tip to keep your sweater tucked in is to use a belt higher up on your waist and then tuck your sweater into it!

I’ve also heard wearing a sports bra over your dress (obviously if your dress doesn’t have too much fabric on top) works great to tuck your sweater into as well.

Outfit Ideas: Sweaters (Under $30!) and Over the Knee Boots

I’m all about the oversized sweaters and over the knee boots for winter. I just got a small sweater haul in the mail that I wanted to share.  Amazon of course comes through with the great prices (everything is under $30!) and free 2 day shipping.

In all of the outfits below I’m wearing these jeans and these over the knee boots.

OVERSIZED SWEATERS AND OVER THE KNEE BOOTS

Black Ruffle Sleeve Sweater

It’s a bit dark in the photo so hard to see but there is a ruffle detailing at the sleeve which makes this otherwise basic sweater so fun!  It’s a bit baggier than I usually like but it’s a one size fits all sweater so if you are taller than me, it might fit better.  However, in the winter, I’m all about the oversized baggy fit so I’m keeping this one as I think it looks really cute with skinny jeans and boots!

The cutest sweaters on Amazon under $30

Just to note, I’m wearing my favorite high waisted skinnies that I featured in my post where I shared my secrets to finding the perfect jeans for ladies with short legs.  I’ve been wearing them SO much and I love that they fit perfectly to your legs so that you can wear over the knee boots with it!

The sweater itself is a very nice thick knit.  It’s a bit heavy and so will be difficult to wear a winter coat over it without looking like or feeling like the marshmallow man.  It’s great for a trip to the mall where you know you’ll be indoors with the heat and not have to bring a coat with you.

Outfit Ideas: Sweater and over the knee boots

Heart Elbow Patch Sweater

I don’t think I’ll ever be over cutesy details like this but I adore the heart elbow patches!  Just too cute.  It comes in 5 colors and I’m wearing the size small which fits true to size.

This is a lightweight knit so if you think you might be cold (I am always cold!) I’d recommend wearing a thin long sleeve tee underneath to add enough warmth.

Outfit Ideas: Sweater and over the knee boots

You may have already spotted it in my instagram post too!

Over the knee boots: High end or Affordable?

About the boots: I own both high end and affordable over the knee boots.  The Steve Madden pair are some of the most comparable to the high end Stuart Weitzman boots.

I like the chunky heel as it makes it a lot more comfortable to wear all day long and these are a little bit more forgiving in the calf area whereas some boots are super slim and so if you are wearing jeans it kind of bunches up and can be a bit awkward looking unless you are wearing leggings or perfectly fit skinny jeans. I highly recommend these over the knee boots if you are looking for a great quality and under $100.

With that said, the Stuart Weitzman boots look great on because they are slim fitting. They don’t slide down and and they are extremely comfortable.  (Check my latest instagram post here to see them on me).

If you are wanting to splurge a bit more, this is the time to do it as they are on sale for 40% off now!  Sizes are limited so also check them on sale here, here and here.

The cutest sweaters on Amazon under $30

Pearl Peplum Sweater

This one is a little bit more fun with the pearl details and the peplum.  I think it’s a little short on me so I’m thinking about exchanging for a size up (I’m wearing the size small here) as I don’t really love the cropped look.  I already have a short waist and where the peplum is hitting on my waist, make it look even shorter.  But I think in a size up it might work as it really is a cute top and I love the details.

Outfit Ideas: Sweater and over the knee boots

White Ruffle Sleeve Sweater

This is the same sweater as the black one above. I couldn’t decide which color so I ordered both!  Thank goodness for Amazon prime with their free shipping and returns right? (Get 30 day free trial for Amazon Prime with my link!) You can see the ruffles a lot better here, aren’t they so cute?

The sleeves are so long which is always a problem of mine.  Short arm problems, right?  But like I said previously I do love the oversized look so I think I can make it work!

FULL LENGTH FREE STANDING MIRROR

I’m also loving my new full length mirror that I just got!  This is in my home office where I’m always trying on samples for my clothing line or trying on stuff that I get in the mail. I’m always needing a mirror so I figured it was about time that I get one.

I looked at a bunch of stores and was so happy to have found this full length mirror on Amazon of course!  It’s under $100 and the perfect size and I love the modern design.  It was not only the design I was looking for but it was also the most inexpensive one and free shipping!  And I wonder why I always just buy everything on Amazon these days.  Anyway, I love that it’s a stand alone mirror so I can move it around easily when I need to.

WINTER OUTFIT IDEAS: SWEATER, LEGGINGS & OVER THE KNEE BOOTS

SWEATER: Full disclosure that the photo on the website looks nothing like that in real life. I still kept it but was a bit disappointed how far off from the photo it was!

LEGGINGS: On sale!  Very thick and appropriate to wear to work leggings.  Just make sure your top covers your butt! 🙂

OVER THE KNEE BOOTS: Yup, these are the same one as above!

HAT: My favorite beanie! Keeps me so warm during the winter. I was inspired by my sister to add a Chanel brooch for the perfect touch.

BAG: I got this Saint Laurent years ago (when they still went by YSL!) and it’s still a favorite bag as it’s the perfect size.

BAG STRAP: Another awesome Amazon buy that I literally use all the time.  I put these bag straps on every bag that I can as it’s made all my bags sturdier and easier to carry.

Fringe Cardigan or Cape – 1 Look 2 Ways

I’m all about creating versatile outfits and lately I have a super easy uniform of a graphic tee, ripped jeans and heels.  I wanted to play around with what I could do with this simple outfit and turns out all you need is a cute outerwear to create two different looks.

FRINGE CARDIGAN CAPE
TEE JEANS SHOES (similar)
SUNGLASSES  CHOKER

I really love both options!  The cardigan is so cozy and when I was wearing it I felt like it was just a cozy blanket.  I love the fringe and the pockets!  The cape, just dresses up the outfit very easily.  It’s still casual but kind of a fancy casual!  I just love being able to dress up my look with a simple piece.  I’m so obsessed with capes lately which is why my sister and I designed so many for our line!  Check out more options here.

And love that the fringe sweater comes in a few colors, I’m tempted to get the white one, it’s such a perfect piece for fall and winter!

How to Style Enamel Pins

It’s a new dynamic now to see how certain trends really have their roots in Instagram and take off on that platform. Take #throwbackthursday – ready enamel pins. Although they are photogenic on their owns, styling them is a little bit of a trickier situation to navigate.

I think that the easiest way to show off a variety of your cutest enamel pins is to work them onto a denim jacket, which is also made of a more durable fabric. Keep in mind that the pins do leave rather large piercings in the fabric; they’re not needle-sized!

For a diverse representation, think about layering the surfaces that the pins lie on by placing some on the collar and others on the pocket, not just the body of the fabric.
Check out some of these budget friendly denim jackets below that are begging to be pinned.

How do you arrange your favorite pins to wear them together?

4 ways to style a graphic tee/sweatshirt

I can never resist a cute saying or character on a tee or sweater.  Looking back in my archives, I wrote about it back in 2012 and I still love them!  My sister and I loved the trend so much that we went and created our own line of graphic tees and sweatshirts!  I just think they are so cute and wanted to show ways on how I’ve been wearing this trend.

I got this sweater a few weeks ago and I laugh every time I wear it.  My husband always calls me “the boss” so I just had to get it.  He even laughs whenever I wear this! These kinds of sweaters are cute paired with a pair of jeans but I went with a little flare skirt and black pumps to dress it up.  Even though the graphic is usually enough I do like to add a necklace to give it an accent and not just be all about the wording on the shirt.  The chevron necklace was enough to work with it without being too distracting like a larger statement necklace would be.

Similar sweaters that could be easily dressed up:

Sometimes I like to use the graphic tee as an accent instead of the main part of the outfit so even if people can’t read what it says, I use it as almost like a pattern. When paired with a jacket like this, a tee that has a larger coverage with the graphic works best.

And other jackets that I’m loving:

The graphic sweatshirt is probably the easiest thing to make into a super casual outfit but paired with printed shorts and glam necklaces makes this into more of a happy hour with the girls look!

And lastly our cute gray tee that I paired with slouchy boyfriend jeans, a sleek gunmetal necklace (part of our holiday collection, coming soon!) and the perfect pair of glitter slip on’s.  It’s a casual look without looking sloppy and perfect for running around after my daughter and running errands.
