When finding a matching outfit, I either look for places that specifically focus on matching family outfits (like Lilly Pulitzer), or I look for places that sell both mom and daughter outfits as separates (like Old Navy).
Matching dresses for mom and daughter
Finding matching mommy and me dresses are definitely the easiest as you can often find the same colors or patterns.
If you are looking for dresses for photos, I always opt for a colorful print or vibrant colors as they look better in photos.
For summer dresses or special occasions, I recommend looking for matching dresses in a fun floral pattern.

Graphic tees for mommy and me
It’s always fun to get graphic tees or sweatshirts with different sayings. Sometimes it’s the easiest route when looking for matching outfits.
I like to do a graphic tee with a matching skirt in the same color or just jeans!
The best place to get mommy and daughter shirts is Etsy.
You can find so many options and lots of fun and funny sayings!
And if you are a bit crafty, you can always get creative if you have a cutting machine or even just iron on letters.

What to wear for family photos
When you become a new mom, one of my favorite things was taking photos with my baby!
And baby outfits are so easy as they are all so cute but finding the perfect mom daughter outfit can be tough!
My best tip for family photos is to actually start out with mom’s outfit first.
Once you’ve selected your outfit, it’s so much easier to find dresses in the same color or theme of your own outfit.
Don’t always go for matchy matchy
Having a variety within each family member but sticking to the same color scheme or similar styles – for example; ruffle dresses, pleated skirts or one piece to pull everyone’s outfit together like a denim jacket.
If you do want to match, graphic tees and sweatshirts like these valentines day shirts are great for photos.
Matching outfits for the entire family
Matching mom and baby is easier in that you can often find similar patterns or colors.
When you are looking for toddler sizes or little girl and big girl sizes it can be a bit more complicated since a lot of retailers don’t make the same pieces for the entire size range.
Even though it can be hard, I love finding matching family outfits.
My tip is that if you are looking for a variety of sizes try to stick to one retailer as it will be easier to find the same colors or patterns in both kids and adult sizes.
Plus, it makes it so much easier to shop for all your family members at once.

- H&M – Great selection for all family outings and fun events. You can find cute matching sweaters, dresses and tops/tees here. And everything is affordable. If you are looking for petite maternity clothes, they have some of the best selection too!
- Nordstrom – They don’t specifically have a mommy and me section but since they carry such a huge selection of items I can usually find similar tops or dresses that look great together. They also have the best gifts for new moms!
- Target – Lots of cute trendy pieces for mom and kids but great basics as well. For moms, my favorite brands from there are Who What Wear and Wild Fable. For kids, check out the Cat & Jack and Art Class brands.
- Ivy City Co.* – One of the best places to find perfectly matching dresses for the entire family. They have so many styles that are beautiful and modest that can be worn for casual to more special occasions.
- Rachel Parcell* – Find some of the cutest dresses for mom and daughter here! Love the classic yet trendy styles and the price point can be a bit high but the quality is very good.
- Etsy – my go to place to finding the cutest mommy and me graphic tees! Lots of great choices and fun sayings on tees and more.
- Shein – Super affordable and very trendy styles. It takes some digging around but they do have a lot of great pieces for both mom and daughter, often in the same colors and patterns.
- Cotton On – They carry more trendy styles but lots of great options for both kids and adults. I love that their kid sizes go from toddler to big kid sizes so it’s easy to find matching sibling outfits here too.
- Morning Lavender* – Not a huge selection but they have some adorable things that are perfect for Mother’s day photos or other dressier occasions.
- Old Navy – Great for basics so if you are looking for tees/jeans/jackets this is the spot to get them, during the holidays they also have family matching pajamas.
- Lilly Pulitzer* – Known for her vibrant colors and patterns, they have lots of matching mommy and me styles and even accessories!
- Hanna Andersson – I buy almost all my kids pajamas here and they have the best matching holiday family PJs!
Tips to match with your kids
Matching with your kids is so much fun and of course, take advantage of it while they are little and still want to! I try to coordinate outfits with my girls all the time.
A key tip to matching with your kids but also not looking like a kid yourself is find styles that look good on mom first.
A lot of times we gravitate towards the kids styles first as they are so cute, but what happens is, is that the kids look great and then mom doesn’t feel as comfortable in her outfit.
I like to make sure, especially if you plan on taking photos, that mom feels comfortable so that she can relax and feel great while taking pics with her kids.
Stick to the same color theme and match to the environment. If you are taking pictures outside in the fall, look at the colors in the area and try to find colors that will complement them.
Jogger sets are a really easy way to match and be comfy too!
