4 Tips to Styling Neutral Outfits
#1 Invest in Quality Basic Neutral Pieces: Neutral shades will NEVER go out of style, which makes quality neutral pieces a great investment for your personal wardrobe.
You will get tons of use out of these more classic/basic styles, so quality over quantity is the goal here! A great blazer goes a long way and looks way more chic compared to a blazer that does not have the right fit/fabric.
These details are everything when it comes to a neutral outfit!

#2 Play with Textures: You may think that neutrals can get “boring” but the truth is, there are so many ways to mix and match not only different shades of neutrals but different textures to add some fun elements to your outfits.
You can pair brown faux leather leggings with a camel knit sweater, and the combination of the contrasting fabrics instantly looks more chic and put together.
A classic ivory sweater can be amped up with a textured wool finish as opposed to just classic knit. Have fun with neutrals AND textures to create your chic looks.

#3 Go Monochrome: When all else fails or if you need a quick outfit ASAP – go monochrome! Monochromatic looks are one of the most chic ways to style neutrals, and this is incredibly easy to do when you are styling your neutral outfits.
You can wear black denim with a black cami and a black blazer, or an ivory sweater with white jeans and white boots.
#4 Focus on Silhouettes: Another way to stray away from “boring” neutral outfits and to make them more chic, is to focus on flattering silhouettes and cuts of the neutral pieces you reach for.
For example. instead of a basic white blouse, grab one with puff sleeves! Or wanting to style black pants? Get a pair of wide-leg trousers to flatter any figure.
Essential Wardrobe Items for Neutral Winter Outfits

A great plus to investing in neutral wardrobe staples is that you will get TONS of use out of them. Whether you are just looking to add some new quality neutral pieces to your wardrobe, or want to create a total neutral capsule wardrobe, these pieces are the perfect foundation to creating endless neutral outfit options.
- White Shirt – A classic white tee and/or white blouse is essential for wearing underneath sweaters and jackets and makes styling so easy
- Trench Coat – A wardrobe staple that every woman needs! I love the look of a classic khaki trench coat layered over just about anything
- Neutral Denim – Whether it be black denim, white denim or gray denim – add a great fitting pair of neutral denim to you wardrobe and you will be creating chic neutral outfits in no time
- Sweater Vest – When dressing for winter, I am all about layers. Creating chic neutral outfits are just that much more stylish when you throw over a sweater dress (think on top of a button down or over a knit dress)
- Black Pants – A good pair of suit pants/trousers is a must have, and they are great to style in the winter months as they tend to come in warmer fabrics
- Black Coat – Everyone needs a good black coat! Whether it’s a long wool black coat, or a black leather jacket – find one that fits your style and layer it up!
- Camel Coat – Camel is such a gorgeous warm neutral color and it is a great option for a coat to layer with. It adds warmth to any overall look and works with whites or blacks
- Black Blazer – A necessity, always! A black blazer can be worn with so many things, from casual looks over leggings, to styled formally with trousers. I like to invest in a quality blazer that fits well as it is something that will never go out of style
- White Pants – Crisp cut white pants are the epitome of neutral chic, and you can style them with black, white or browns flawlessly
- Midi Skirts – When dressing in the winter, I opt for longer dresses and skirts. Midi skirts have quickly become a favorite as they are comfortable to wear and easy to style for so many occasions. I love them paired with sneakers just as much as heels

I shared specific color ideas above for what I truly reach for the most out of my own wardrobe, but any of these pieces in the classic neutral colors (ivory, khaki, camel, gray, black) would make perfect additions to your neutral outfits.
