Fun summer activities your kids will love!

Being that we live in Seattle, we fully take advantage when we get nice weather. After being cooped up inside for many many months, when the sun finally comes out, we basically live in our backyard.

I’m all about having the kids and I do fun activities that we don’t have to leave the house for. We moved into this house for our giant backyard and I want to take advantage of that!

Easy Meal planning tips for busy moms

My days are so full that prepping meals tend to be the last on my list until my kids are telling me that they are hungry and then I’m scrambling to pull something together.

I know! Get it together mama! I needed a better system so I started some really easy meal planing tips that have helped me tremoundously and I know that they will help you too if you struggle with the same

This post is in partnership with Grown in Idaho. All opinions are my own.

Tip 1: Just focus on Dinner

There’s 3 meals in a day, yes but dinner is what’s most important to me. I don’t want the pressure to be meal planning all 3 meals and neither should you! Concentrating on dinner will help you plan faster, easier and make you less stressed.

Tip 2: Buy ready made products that you can easily pair with lots of options

I recently discovered the all-new Grown In Idaho Mashed Potatoes that are 100% Idaho-grown potatoes that are frozen and easily made in the microwave or on the stovetop.

They taste amazing, with a rich and creamy texture, real homemade taste and I love that they are made with other real ingredients like skim milk and butter. But the best part, it takes me minutes to make these compared to how long it would take for me to buy potatoes, peel, boil, mash, add seasonings!

It’s a huge timesaver and since everyone in my family loves mashed potatoes it’s something I keep in my freezer all the time now!

They come in portionable frozen potato medallions which is so helpful as you can make a small or large portion, depending on what your family wants!

Because I know that I will be cooking with mashed potatoes I can then add a protein like a marinated pork loin here and some corn on the cob.

Or another easy option would be a grilled chicken breast with a side salad.

You can also think of the mashed potatoes as a main. Here are some recipes that my family and I love and it doesn’t take long at all!

Southwestern Mashed Bowl with Homestyle Mashed Potatoes

Mashed Breakfast Burger with Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes

Tip 3: Keep a calendar that is just for writing down your meals

I often will buy ingredients and then forget what I wanted to make with them. By writing everything out, I can keep myself accountable with following the menu and also making sure that I use all the food that I had bought for the week!

Most of all, make dinner fun! I find that when I get stressed about dinner my. kids get stressed and then I don’t even get to enjoy the dinner I made!

Find food that your whole family will love, like the Grown in Idaho mashed potatoes and keep them in your freezer for a quick and easy meal prep!

How to keep your kids motivated during virtual school

My daughter has been doing remote learning for almost a year now and it started out a bit rough, but we finally have a good routine for her. Although she misses her friends and classmates, she is really thriving with virtual school.

This post is in partnership with Sunbelt Bakery. All opinions are mine.

Kid's snack time with Sunbelt Bakery Granola Bars

How to keep your kids motivated during virtual school

Here are a few things that I’ve found to that have really helped to keep her motivated and wanting to learn.

Keep them on the same schedule as school – We get her up at the same time, get dressed, do breakfast, etc… and when it’s time for school she has to be in her seat at a specific time. Even when she doesn’t have her virtual class at that time, we still have her sit down at her desk and look through the assignments for that day.

Sunbelt Bakery Oatmeal Raisin granola bars

Make “recess” fun – Kids love recess to play with their friends. Since we don’t have that anymore, I try to make those times really fun during the day so that after a few hours on her virtual classes she has something really fun to look forward to.

I either have a craft/activity that we can do together or we make it into a fun snack time!

Mom and daughter snack time in tent

On this day I set up a picnic with our favorite Sunbelt Bakery granola bars in her tent with her stuffie friends!

These Oatmeal Raisin Chewy Granola Bars are so good and I love that Sunbelt Bakery Granola Bars are made with whole grains and no preservatives. They are the perfect afternoon snack and we had such a blast on our little indoor picnic!

kids snack break with sunbelt bakery granola bars

When Layla first tried them she said “YUM! These take like cookies!” So I made her a fun “milk and cookies” picnic. She has been talking about this for days and can’t wait to do it again!

I love the bakery-fresh taste and the Oatmeal Raisin flavor is so good. I’m so glad that it’s back by popular demand! I’m stocking up to make sure we always have some in our pantry. You can find these and a wide variety of other flavors from Sunbelt Bakery online and in stores!

No distractions allowed – If you can, try to section off a spot just for their school time so that they know that this is where you do all your schoolwork. I don’t allow her to keep any toys in the area and we make sure to keep her little sister away too so that she doesn’t have any distractions.

Take some time off before diving into homework – After being on the computer in her virtual class, it gets hard to have to sit through another hour or more of homework. When her classes end, I give her some time to do whatever she wants. When we do go back to her desk to finish her homework, she feels refreshed and ready to learn and finish her homework!

It can be hard to keep our kids on track especially while they are learning at home, but hopefully these tips can help! Let me know your tips on keeping your kids motivated during virtual learning as well!

The Best Christmas Toys for Kids from Nordstrom Toy Shop

This post is sponsored by Nordstrom and ShopStyle. All opinions are my own.

I am a total Nordstrom girl. Growing up in Seattle, I spent so much time shopping at Nordstrom with my mom and some of my favorite memories was shopping during the holidays at Nordstrom! We would spend hours in our local Nordstrom shopping for gifts and I would admire all the decorations that they had up in the store. I still shop at Nordstrom frequently and when I discovered the Nordstrom Toy Shop, I knew I would be getting my girls all their Christmas presents from there!

The Nordstrom Toy Shop has such a great selection of toys that I don’t see at other stores! From stocking stuffers to toys from ages 0-8+ they have an amazing selection and I had such a hard time narrowing things down.

Stocking Stuffers at the Nordstrom Toy Shop

My girls love stuffed animals so instead of a lot of little things this year I decided to gift them each a stuffed animal that they would really love.

I have to say that my girls are rough on their stuffed animals. They take them everywhere. They eat with them, they sleep with them and they get so dirty. I try to buy stuffed animals that will last through many washes as I need them to hold up well! Nordstrom’s stuffed animals have never let me down and we absolutely love all of them!

Toys for toddler to big kids

My oldest is 7 and my youngest is 2 so it’s quite the age difference in terms of what toys that they like. I love when they play together so I was happy to find toys that both of them enjoy and play together!

We typically do one big gift a year for the girls and I thought that this unicorn playhouse would be perfect for them. I wanted them to start enjoying it early so I set it up for them and they have been playing in there every single day! It’s so adorable, goes perfectly in our play room and the best part, it was so easy to set up!

Gifts for kids under $50

As I mentioned, I wanted to get presents that both girls could enjoy together and I found so many and the best part is that they were all under $50!

The musical instruments are adorable and the girls have had so much fun forming their own band. They even do performances in their playhouse!

And Nordstrom also has a great selection of books for kids of all ages. We love this series of travel books and following Aya & Pete on all their adventures around the world!

I’ve always been a huge fan of shopping at Nordstrom because of their return policy. I never feel like I’m stuck with something if it doesn’t fit or doesn’t work out for us. Since we’ve all been staying home more this year, I’ve done so much online shopping and so i truly appreciate that it’s always free shipping on nordstrom.com! When I need something a bit quicker, I’ve also taken advantage of their curbside pickup and it’s so convenient. I can usually pick up my order in the same day or next day!

I also love being a Nordy Club member as I get rewards when I shop! It’s free to join so make sure to join now if you haven’t yet. It’s totally worth it!

Saving time during the holidays with Walmart+

This post is in partnership with Walmart. All opinions are my own.

The holidays is always a busy time, but with my business it’s also my busiest time of the year. I try to balance my work with spending time with my family as that’s what’s most important to me, but it definitely adds to the stress of the holiday season!

I’ve been using Walmart+ for a few months now and it’s been a lifesaver so many times that I can’t even imagine life without it! It takes the stress off of grocery shopping, with the free delivery from your store on orders $35+ (restrictions apply) benefit, which is a huge plus for me!

And now, with the new benefit of free shipping, no minimum on items (excludes oversized/freight & Marketplace items), I’ve been able to save even more time! I love to decorate for the holidays but haven’t had time to go to the stores. Walmart.com has such a huge selection of holiday decor items so I placed my order using Walmart+ free shipping, no order minimum (excludes oversized/freight & Marketplace items) and got free shipping and was able to decorate my house just a few days later!

I also got the kids the cutest Christmas pajamas that we’ve already been wearing a ton of and some fun “pre-Christmas” gifts just to keep them busy while I try to get work done! This slime kit has been a ton of fun for them!

Spending time with my girls is honestly why I do what I do. Even though I own my own business and it’s a ton of work, I’m able to set my schedule and spend time with them when I want to.

But with that being said, I often work when they are asleep (nap times are my most efficient work times!) and I constantly feel like I need more time in the day so I love having the Walmart+ membership just to know that whenever I need groceries or other necessities, I don’t need to leave the house to get what I need. Getting these items shipped to me is the best thing that I can do for myself!

And don’t think  I just shop on Walmart.com for things for my home! I shop at Walmart.com for our family’s clothes too! I love this sweater and the adorable jacket for Edie that I added to my cart on my last order!

Along with Walmart+ free shipping and delivery, no order minimum (excludes oversized/freight & Marketplace items) and free delivery from your store on orders $35+ (restrictions apply) which is perfect for grocery shopping without leaving the house, the Walmart+ membership also includes member prices on gas at Walmart, Sam’s Club, and  Murphy stations! Make sure to sign up for Walmart+, which offers a free 15 day trial, to see which benefits are available in your area!

Our favorite Christmas Traditions with PJ Masks!

This post is in collaboration with PJ Masks. All opinions are my own.

Once I had kids, I realized just how much I loved Christmas and everything leading up to it.  I love to have Christmas traditions with my girls and I’m excited that we got to incorporate them with PJ Masks this year!

We are huge fans of PJ Masks at our house and the girls love their PJ Masks pajamas (check out this adorable set at Target)! I grabbed these printable activity sheets and made a fun day for us!

I know how it is with kids and projects, you want it to be easy and something that will keep their attention. These projects are perfect for that!

Letter to Santa

We started with my favorite tradition, our letter to Santa!  Layla loves writing to Santa and sharing her wishlist. Once Christmas is here, she loves to check off everything that Santa got her!

PJ Masks Ornament

I have two Christmas trees, one that is the “grown up tree” that I decorate myself and then a fun tree (this year, it’s pink!) that I let my girls decorate however they want.  I love seeing how they decorate and especially with homemade ornaments.

This PJ Masks ornament is adorable! They loved coloring it and then putting it together was simple as well! Tip: I used double sided tape instead of glue as it was easier for me to get it to stay that way.

Holiday cards for your friends

There’s nothing better than getting holiday cards in the mail, right? My girls love to get anything in the mail addressed to them, so we wanted to send some cards out to their friends too!

These templates are all so cute and easy to do for all kids! Make sure to download them for your kids too!

Don’t miss this amazing giveaway!

Calling all holiday heroes! The PJ Masks are giving you a chance to #WinYourWishlist. Visit PJMasksContest.com to enter this SUPER sweepstakes, featuring this season’s hottest new toys, books, and more! Note: Must be 18 or older to enter.
