5 Tips to Finding The Best Post Baby Swimsuits (+ flattering styles to shop now)

With the warm weather comes lots of water based activities, and while you want to be involved with your kids in these events, you may feel hesitant to wear a swimsuit because of your new post-baby body and likely postpartum pooch.

It is totally normal to feel uncomfortable in your body post baby, here are my tips to help you feel your BEST in your post baby body and rock that swimsuit!

5 Tips to Find the Right Post Baby Swimsuit

Before you set out to do your swimsuit shopping, here are my 5 essential tips that you should know to help you choose the perfect postpartum swimsuit.

Keep these in mind while shopping, and ultimately just make sure you choose a swimsuit that you feel confident in – no matter what it is!

5 Tips to Find the Right Post Baby Swimsuit

#1 Proper Fit

The number/size on your suit does not matter – this goes for all clothing, in all aspects of life.

Different brands use different size guides, so my best advice is to not obsess over the number and to try on multiple sizes to see what truly FEELS the best when it is on.

You will know by how the suit feels, not by the size number on the tag.

#2 Comfort

Comfort is key for a swimsuit, especially in a postpartum body.

Think about the features that are most important to you – if you will be breastfeeding, you will need something adjustable/easy to pull down, if you are running around with the kids, you will want something full coverage that stays put.

Some suits even have a built in tummy control panel which is great for post baby but it might not be something that you necessarily need so just focus on the parts that are most important to you.

Comfort is a main factor in helping you feel confident in your body, and that is the #1 goal!

#3 Body Type

Bottom line….everyone’s body type is different!

There will never be a one size / one style fits all kind of suit, so figuring out your body shape is essential to find the suit that will be the most comfortable and flattering on you.

Some examples of body types are rectangle shaped, pear shaped or hourglass shaped.

Keep in mind height differences also matter in swimwear! If you are tall or petite, different styles and fits will make a huge difference.

If you have a more rectangular shaped body, your waist, hips and bust are very similar in size.

One shoulder bathing suits look great with this body type, as well as the ruched suits to create the fullness that hits in the right spots.

If you have a pear shaped body type, wrap style swimsuits really flattering your shape. You can always be strategic with the colors, and opting for darker colors on the bottom and lighter colors towards the top.

If you have an hourglass body type, form fitting suits are a great option and will really show off your naturally cinched waist!

#4 Adjustable Straps

An absolutely necessity for a post baby swimsuit in my opinion is adjustable straps/ties!

Not only do they allow for easy access if you need to nurse your child, but they allow you the flexibility to fit the bathing suit to your perfect comfort level.

You can tie it super tight or loosen it up depending on your preference, and this also helps for postpartum bodies as our size can be constantly shifting.

One thing that you can easily look for is wide straps which can definitely help with nursing moms that need more support!

#5 Have fun with it!

This is arguably the most important tip – have fun with your suit!!

We all dread bathing suit shopping, and post baby the swimsuit try on and shopping process can be even more emotional.

Have fun with experimenting with different styles, colors, fun prints, etc. and remember to not take it so seriously so that you feel GOOD in your body and in your swimsuit.

If you love bright colors, or bold prints – go for it! Whatever makes you feel like yourself and is truly comfortable to wear is the perfect suit for you.

For a postpartum body, I like to stick towards a fitted tankini top that is not not loose around your belly. The fitted style will help support your tummy, flatter your curves and and give you more confidence.
