Missguided Dresses Review

honest review of missguided dresses

During the summer I realized that I needed more dresses.  Last summer I was pregnant and I lived in dresses but they were all big and billowy to fit over my big belly.  I did not feel like looking pregnant again so I went on a hunt for some cute dresses.  I found missguided.com and have never shopped there before.  I liked quite a few styles so I placed an order and ended up loving what I got!

This Neon Pink Dress is the perfect dress to accessorize.  The color was hard to capture on camera but it most closely resembles the hot pink color that you see on me below.  The dress is very lightweight and almost like a jersey material which means it’s very unforgiving.  It definitely can show your lumps and bumps and even your underwear line.  I solved that by wearing a slip (I’m a fan of this spanx slip) but just so you know in case you get it too!  Other than that, love the dress and the color.  Missguided is a UK brand so I’m always iffy about my sizing.  They equate a UK 4 to a US 0 so I got the size 4 and it fit great so I would stick to their size chart for their sizing suggestions.

I was heading out to a store opening party with a friend so I decided on this outfit.  I paired the dress with my Brian Atwood pumps, a t+j Designs necklace and lucite clutch.

But of course I made some last minute changes so this is what I really wore out.  Changed into my Louboutin heels and Chanel bag.

I wanted something fancy for not only the holidays but also in planning for a girls Vegas trip, where we always like to get a little bit more dressed up. So I picked up this Lace Dress.  I took a 4 in this as well and it fits perfectly like it was made for me.  It zips up in the back which I’m always concerned about as I’m not the biggest fan of back zippers but I understand why they had to add it to the back so that the front of the dress will lay nicely.

The lace is delicate but stretchy so the top is pretty flexible for different sizes.  The waist though, doesn’t have much give so if I gain any weight, it may not fit!  I’ve seen similar dresses for over $100 so was pleased to find this one for $60 (it’s now $55!).

Always the fan of long sleeve dresses, I was immediately attracted to this floral print dress (now on sale).  I liked that it wasn’t too long or too short, however if you are taller than me (I’m 5’2″), it might be quite short on you.  It’s a great dress for these end of summer/early fall nights.  It’s lightweight and fully lined .  There’s not much give in the hips so I wouldn’t advise it to someone who is more curvy in the hip area.

And lastly I picked up this sweater as I just love the pink with the subtle heart.  I have to say out of all the items, this sweater ended up being my favorite!  It’s so soft and warm and very cute on.  I will be wearing it lots this winter.

Overall, I was impressed with the quality of everything I received.  It is very similar to ASOS in price, style and quality.  A lot of their styles trend younger – trendy and skimpy so not exactly my style but there was plenty of styles that I found that I liked.  Shipping wise – because I spent over $120 they upgraded me to US express shipping (I believe they ship from the UK) so I got my package very quickly, in about 4 days I think.  For returns, you have 14 days to return and you will have to pay for return shipping but they have a US address that you send it back to.  Fit wise – I would say everything I bought runs true to size but also runs small.  And I mean that in the way that it fits but because none of the dresses have give to them the hips/thighs were a bit more clingy.  If you are a bit more curvy, I’d size up because I feel like their dresses are made for women with the up and down straight body types.  I think next time I may try a size up just to see the fit.  Pricing seems to fluctuate (I assume due to the exchange rate?) as everything I bought has already changed in prices but only by a few dollars here and there. It’s not a place that I will shop at a lot but I do like browsing the site and when I’m looking for a specific trendy piece I will definitely be shopping there.

Golden Tote Review

I was browsing online and came upon the Golden Tote which is a site where you purchase a tote and get 2-3 items for $49 or 5-7 items for $149.  It’s a little different than subscription boxes where everything is a surprise as you get to choose at least some items in your tote.  I chose the $149 option where I got to pick 2 items and the rest of the tote would be a surprise.

My review is a little late so all my items are more summer-y styles.  I still wanted to share as this is the only tote that I purchased and it was worth the review!

I didn’t capture a good detail shot of this top but it’s a snakeskin print and very silky.  I ended up wearing this top a lot during the summer as it was so easy to slip on and pair with shorts or a skirt.  I will transition it to fall with dark skinny jeans and a blazer so I love that I can use it for all seasons.

When I took this blouse out of the package, I didn’t think I would like this.  It didn’t really seem like my style but when I tried it on, it ended up being one of my favorite items.  I love the slightly sheer fabric and the ruffles on the front.
Golden Tote Top | J Crew Shorts | Prada Heels
I didn’t end up wearing this top a lot, the embroidery detail at the top wasn’t really my style but I didn’t hate it so was fine keeping it and working it into my wardrobe.
Golden Tote Top | Madewell Skirt | Louboutin Heels
I posted this on one of my weekly outfit posts and just wanted to post it again as this lace top was one of my picks from the tote.  I love the lace top and wore it so much all throughout the summer.  The only thing was fit as it only came in a Small and I think an XS would’ve fit better.  The other item I chose was a cardigan and actually it was my least favorite item.  I didn’t feature it here because I already gave it away, it just was not cute on me.
Golden Tote top | Target Skirt | Prada Heels

I had one more top that I forgot to photograph but to sum it up, out of the 6 items I was sent, 1 item I hated, 2 I loved and 3 that I liked so not a bad ratio and for $149 I felt like it was worth it.  The quality of all the items was definitely on par with J Crew or what you’d find at Nordstrom.  I almost expected Forever 21 quality for that price but was pleasantly surprised when I received the items.  And like I said, I’ve worn some items quite a few times and have not had issues with shrinking after washing or loose seams or anything like that.

The site itself was very easy to navigate and I do like a lot of the styles that they offer.  I just caught a look at their current line up and love practically everything!

Shipping was slow for my tote but I think they updated it where they ship every week now.  When I ordered, they were only shipping once a month I think so I waited a few weeks to get mine.

My biggest concern for the selection is that none of the items were offered in an XS. I don’t feel like I’m that small but in general I’m in XS in all major brands so I feel like it’s something that they should offer.  I had fit problems with all of my tops and luckily it is easy to do some adjusting by tucking things in but I think in person, you could see how some of the tops just hung on me kind of weird.  That’s my biggest reason why I haven’t purchased another tote.  I just took a look and it does look like there are some things offered in an XS so I might try ordering again.

If you don’t end up wanting to buy the tote, you could always purchase the items individually in their shop but the prices are much higher so it depends if you want to take the risk with the tote or not!  Overall, I do recommend the tote and think that the amount and quality of the pieces was well worth the $149 price and is a great way to update your wardrobe in one easy order.

Altuzarra for target: my picks and review

I was in Chicago for most of last week and when I got back I saw an ad about the Altuzarra for Target collection so after my husband and I grabbed breakfast, I stopped in to check it out.  I had seen the trench coat and boots in the commercials which is what I went to look for but of course, after talking to a sales person, she told me that those were the first to go and people had been in line already in the morning.  I still was able to find some cute pieces so thought I’d share with you guys!

The blouses caught my eye as I love button up blouses.  I own so many but they are so easy for me to wear dressed up or down.  I wanted to like the silky one on the left but I didn’t love the flow of it.  Most of my silky blouses flow really nicely on the body and tucked in but because this was most likely a poly blend it ended up being a bit stiff and stuck to my waist in weird ways and especially tucked in, it wasn’t the best look.  The striped shirt on the right did end up coming home with me as I loved the fit and the contrasting cuffs.   The quality is great, very soft and lightweight.   I’m wearing a size small in both blouses.

Orchid Print Oxford Shirt | Striped Oxford Shirt

I’m not usually one for these kinds of sweaters but I liked the shoulder embellishments.  On me though, it wasn’t the best look I felt like it overwhelmed me and the sweater overall was a bit big.  The embroidery detail is very well done and really pretty.  I’m wearing a size small but probably could have sized down.

Crane Embroidery Sweater

The python blouse is one of my favorites!  The fit is super cute with the shoulder puff sleeves and the pretty bow that you can leave untied as well.  This one came home with me.  It definitely looks more expensive than it is. The black and white blouse on the right is similar but I didn’t love this one as much.  I felt like the material was stiffer and showed wrinkles much more.  It also didn’t have any special details that I loved that I felt like all the other pieces had.  Wearing a size small in both of these.

I don’t have many blouses like this one but I just loved the embroidery and sequin detail.  I thought it would be cute paired with my faux leather leggings and boots so I brought it home to try on with the full outfit.  I’m wearing the XS here as the top is a bit more flowy and I didn’t want to look like I was swimming in it.

This dress was super pretty and I feel like I have nowhere to wear it to but I bought it anyway.  I was so happy to find a maxi dress that fit me lengthwise!  The photo on the left I’m on my tip toes and on the right is wearing flats so you can see it’s a little long but not too bad and definitely will fit without alterations when I’m in heels.  The material is really nice, it’s like a thick silky material and I think is perfect for the fall and winter.  I’m wearing a size 2 and the fit is perfect in the bust and waist.  I also like that it’s not too low cut as I’ve found dresses like this can sometimes be a bit more revealing.

Satin Floral Maxi Dress

This dress is the only one that I truly did not like but it was mainly the fit.  I don’t like the hem lengths that hit exactly between the knee and the ankle.  It’s just not a good look for my short legs.  The detailing is really pretty on this dress and I think it would be super cute on someone taller. On the model, the dress is above her knee.  HA! Just shows you how short I am (or how tall she is).  I wanted to show you the dots and the sequins as it is a pretty dress, just the cut is not for me.  Wearing the size 2.

Peasant Dress

Here are the items I couldn’t find at my Target and are sold out online, I’m hoping to maybe snag a return at a Target store if I can!

Did you guys get anything? Any of you lucky enough to snag the boots? I’d love to know if those are worth tracking down!

Milani Color Statement Lipstick – Review and Swatches

I go through phases of obsessing over lipstick and am definitely in that phase right now. I recently tried out these Milani Color Statement Lipsticks and wanted to share as they are awesome and they cost $5!

The colors:
Red = High Voltage
Purple = Violet Volt
Pink = Pretty Natural

They go on pretty true to the tube color however the purple is not as purple and turns more into a magenta/pink once it’s on.  They are on the bold side and I think perfect for the fall.

Pros: The application is nice and creamy and really one swipe is all you need, it’s not sheer at all.  They also have a surprisingly good lasting power!  I tend to lose all my lipstick after I’ve drank my morning coffee but these ones managed to stay on a bit longer and I did not reapply until well after lunch.

Cons: Because of the longer lasting power, I’ve found them to dry out my lips.  Nothing a quick application of lip balm can’t fix but I did want to point that out.

You can find them at most drugstores at about $5-$6 each but of course I tend to buy my drugstore makeup when they are running some kind of sale so you can often get them for cheaper!  There’s 36 colors so I will for sure be picking up more!

And in case you missed it, check out Crystal’s post on her tips of how to wear bold lips!

Popsugar Must Have August Box

What’s in the August Popusugar Must Have Box

Mason Jar Cookie Company (retail $12) – I love to bake from
scratch.  The measuring of the ingredients and figuring out if I want to
add this or that is fun to me, but sometimes it’s so much
easier to use mixes so will definitely be trying this out.  All you need
to do is to add butter (which I don’t eat so I will sub for coconut
oil) and egg.

Kendra Scott Elisa Necklace (retail $50) – a simple and classic
necklace that goes with anything.  I like the dainty-ness of the piece
as most piece with stones like this tend to be pendants on the larger
side.

Lollia Shower Gel (Retail $22) – I’m not one for perfumed
shower gel, I tend to stay towards very lightly scented to no scented so
was a bit wary of this one but it passed the sniff test as it wasn’t
too strong and the scent was not bad at all.  Just a light floral
scent.

Bite Beauty Lip Gloss (Retail $22) – I
just love the color!  I’m a fan of anything this pink but I like that
when it goes on it’s more sheer with a hint of color so great for
layering over your lipsticks or wearing when you are going for a more
natural look.  It’s a tad sticky but not drying at all.

Goodbyn Meal and Dipper set (retail $8) – I have no use for this but will be great to add to my diaper bag for snacks for my daughter.  I actually like the little dipper container as this is the perfect size to hand to Layla and she can eat out of.  When we eat out, she just eats what we eat but it’s nice to have snacks on hand when she suddenly decides she’s hungry and we’re not currently eating at the moment.

Paddywax mini jar candle (retail $10) – this smells
delightful!  I am one for clean smelling scents.  I don’t like anything
too spicy or fruity so I am loving the Ocean Tide + Sea Salt scent

Think Thin Bar – I don’t eat dairy so I didn’t try this out, but before when I did eat dairy I used to eat Think Thin bars all the time so I’m sure it’s good! Although I do have to admit, kind of a random thing to include in the box.

For a total retail of $124, it’s a pretty good value considering the box is $39.95!  I used to get Popsugar Must Have boxes all the time (you can read my previous reviews here) and I stopped before I moved houses because I wanted to stop accumulating so much stuff.  I did always love the Popsugar box and it still ranks as one of my favorite subscription boxes.  I try not to subscribe to too many of these but I kind of like the anticipation of getting my boxes and seeing what’s inside.  I still use a lot of the items that I got from my first few Popsugar boxes!

If you’d like to subscribe, just click here and you can choose one month for $39.95 or if you subscribe to more months, you’ll save on your total.  And just for you I have a $10 off code with a 3 month subscription!  Use the code AUG14SELECT.  The code ends on 9/10/14.

Disclosure:  POPSUGAR provided me with a complimentary POPSUGAR Must Have box. The opinions I have shared about the box are my own and POPSUGAR did not tell me what to say or how to say it.

MemeBox Brushes

I recently discovered Memebox
which is a site that sells Korean make up and skincare but all packaged
up in different themed boxes.

The boxes are full sized and deluxe
samples and I like it much better than the box subscriptions that I’ve
subscribed to before as these ones are not a monthly subscription and
you can choose by type of product or color or category like hair, nails,
etc…  I am a sucker for Asian makeup and skincare so I ordered a box
and am anxiously awaiting it’s arrival!  I did get my hands on their brush set
first so thought I’d just do a little review!  It’s only $18 for 6
brushes and comes with a travel case.  I’m always looking for a good set
of brushes to pack easily and love that this came with everything
needed.  (UPDATE: Sorry guys, it was $18, now it’s back up to it’s regular price but I’ll let you know if I see it on sale again!)

1. Basic Eye Shadow Brush
2. Eyeliner Brush
3. Multi Powder Brush
4. Angle Contour Brush
5. Angle Eyebrow Brush
6. Lip & Blending Brush

They are all synthetic material but still very high quality.  I gave them all a try and I do like the way they pick up color and go on smoothly.  The Lip and Blending brush is double ended so it’s nice to have a two for one.  The brushes are a good size for travel but not awkward or to small that would hinder applying makeup.  I love the bright pink color and the fun sparkly bag it comes in.

I can’t wait to get my first memebox and I’ll do a review once I get it and see what comes inside!  I’m tempted to pick up the Anti-Aging Box and the Pinkaholic box next!.

Lorna Jane Activewear Review

I am one of those people that actually like to work out.  I think the key is to find things that you enjoy to do and it doesn’t actually feel like working out.  I also really love work out clothes.  I truly think I get a better work out when I’m wearing something that I love and feels good on.  Lorna Jane, an activewear brand, reached out to me to let me know that they were opening up a store later this month in Seattle and Bellevue and I got to try out a few pieces before they opened!

I just got my package and I adore every single piece.  I am pretty loyal to my workout capris so I own like 5 pairs of the same style but with tops, I love to have a variety and especially love to mix in bright colors.  I’m picky about my tank tops, they have to be the right fit and the right length and I’m happy to report that these fit the bill!  I usually go for more fitted tops but lately for yoga, I’ve been liking a little bit of a relaxed fit.

These tops are also great for when you’re feeling a bit more bloated and it’s easier to hide the belly than a fitted top.  I love the colors and the back detail.  The Radah tank is a really nice lightweight material and comparable to my Lululemon and Nike tops.  It’s fitted at top and a bit more flowy at the body.  The Drill Excel Tank is a mesh like material so very breathable. Size wise, I got these in an XS and they fit true to size (as reference I’m typically a size 4 in Lululemon and XS in Nike)

 Radah Tank
Drill Excel Tank

I am also a huge fan of cute long sleeve tops/jackets to wear to the gym.  I’m always cold and so I  start my workout with long sleeves on and then later take it off when I get too hot. Since I wear them so much, I want to have a tops that goes with the rest of my gear too.  During shavasana in yoga, I always have to have it on or else I get too cold and can’t relax!

I’m torn between the Botanica Sweatshirt and the Tasha top as my
favorites.  The embossing and the zipper details of the sweatshirt makes it so much more stylish than just a regular sweatshirt.  Plus I love that it matches a pair of sneakers that I have. The material is a good medium weight so it’s not too heavy and bulky but it will definitely keep you warm.

I absolutely love the dot details of the Tasha top,  it’s a bit unexpected in activewear which is why I love it.  Since I always layer my long sleeves over my tank top and sports bra, I hate to feel too constricted so I got this and the sweatshirt in a size Small.  It’s still very fitted although the arms are a little bit long and baggy on me (which is not unusual anyway, that happens to me in all brands) and I do recommend going up a size if you plan on doing the same.

The Vesper jacket will be great for the fall, I love the color and the fit.  The ruching at the shoulder is a great detail as it makes it a little bit more girly and less sporty.  Everything from their line is fit much more “modern” and less on the traditional boxy styles that I’ve found other line tend to have.  I love that it’s much more of a fashion-y line but still very gym/yoga studio appropriate.  I got the jacket in an XS and fit is true to size.
