Summer Wedding Guest – What to wear to a beach wedding

My brother is getting married in Costa Rica next month!  I’m so excited for the wedding and just getting away to a gorgeous tropical vacation!  I still trying to decide what to wear so I bought a ton of dresses online and wanted to share with you what I am deciding between.  I wanted something appropriate for a wedding but also not too dressy as they have emphasized that they want everyone to be comfortable and also that it will be on the beach so heels would not be recommended.  I also didn’t want to spend a lot of money so tried to stay around $100-$150.  I haven’t yet decided on shoes but most likely will be in flat sandals and then wedges later on for the reception.

Dress 1: This lace skater dress is so so cute!  I love the lace and the scallops and how the skirt is just the right amount of poofiness.  I’m not leaning towards this one since we will be in Costa Rica I would rather have some color but I had to get it and try it on as I loved it online and I love it even more in person.  I may have to keep it and just wear it for another occasion.

Dress 2: This dress might be a bit too casual but I like having just a basic dress to add accessories to.  I love this pink and think it will be really pretty with a tan.

Dress 3: This fit & flare dress is so cute and combines the things I like about the first two, the color and the lace!  However I just didn’t feel like it was very flattering on me so I am taking this one back.  It is currently on sale though!

Dress 4: This midi dress is my favorite out of the bunch.  I love the big floral pattern and the midi length.   Also great that it’s cotton as Costa Rica will be hot hot hot.  AND it was on sale for 40% off! It’s at the top of my list!

I just got these dresses in the mail this weekend and didn’t have a chance to photograph them on.

This jeweled drop waist dress is so pretty and it’s only $55!  And this blue lace dress is really pretty on.  I love the cut out back and also that it comes in petite sizing.  This little pink dress
is a cute option for a more basic dress like the 2nd one from above but
I like that this one gives more shape and is not as casual.

Nordstrom After Christmas Sale finds!

I’m a little late but Merry Christmas!  Was so busy the weeks leading up to the holidays and have to admit that I’m glad that things will be slowing down a bit as a little rest is much needed! I had such a great week with my family and am so grateful to be able to spend the holidays with them and my in-laws too.  Of course did a little shopping this weekend and found some great stuff on sale at Nordstrom and a few items that I had purchased previously that are now on sale so had to share!

This cute blazer is now $34.  I love the cut and the floral print… a great buy that I know I will wear a lot!

BLAZER // TEE // JEANS // FLATS

These faux leather leggings are $24! I’m all about the faux leather these days.  They surprisingly keep your legs really warm too!

I’ve worn this blazer tons since I got it and just saw that the black version is on sale for $44.  It’s a little bit longer than my other blazers so a bit hard to balance out with my short torso but I like to wear it with dresses as well.  I also had to let you know that they have this gorgeous metallic version also on sale.  I haven’t seen it in person yet but just ordered it!

BLAZER // TEE // JEANS // BOOTS

My very favorite lace up pumps are now on sale. They are comfy and so cute on and come in three colors.

I wore them last week with this outfit.  Also loving our new tees!  Have you seen them?  A little slouchy and super comfy!  We have them in 4 fun sayings 🙂

 CARDIGAN // TEE // JEANS // SHOES

And of course I have to mention the designer sale as there’s still quite a few good picks left and everything is 50% off or more now!

Lookbook: Boss Lady

My trip last week, even though it was for business, caused me to get a little behind as we were just so busy all week.  Finally catching up and hoping to relax this weekend!  I love owning my own business and the work never stops, but I get to do what I love every day so I can’t complain.   I absolutely love being my own boss and so I thought this sweatshirt was too cute too pass up!

What I’m Wearing

The fun part about this sweatshirt is that I customized it myself!   The downtown Seattle Nordstrom is hosting a pop up shop for Bow & Drape where you can customize your own sweatshirt as well as other fun stuff like pouches, pillow, mugs and so much more.  They are great gifts to give and then keep something for yourself too! 🙂  It’s going on now through Dec 24 so make sure to stop by!

Cupcakes and Cashmere clothing review

I’ve been a fan of Emily of Cupcakes and Cashmere forever.  What she has done with her blog and her brand is very admirable.  I love that she came out with her own clothing line so while I was shopping at the Nordstrom Anniversary sale I tried on some of her pieces that caught my eye.

TOP SWEATER JACKET DRESS

First off, I have to mention that the red top on the left I don’t have photos on because I couldn’t even fit it over my head!  Literally the hole to slip it through your head was tiny and had no stretch.  I’m not sure if I just grabbed a weirdo one as I didn’t get another, but that was my experience.  It was definitely cute, just wish it could have fit over my head!
This sweater is the perfect chunky knit.  You know how some chunky knits make you look, well, chunky?  This is actually really flattering!  Love the quality of the knit the the turtleneck was not suffocating.  This piece is on the top of my list to wear for winter!
SWEATER – Size XS (true to size)
JEANS – Size 25 (true to size)

I love the dress and the fit was great but to be honest, I would probably wait for it to go on sale as I’ve tried on a lot of dresses that are very similar to this and it didn’t feel like it was anything different or special for $110.

JACKET – Size XS (true to size)
DRESS – Size XS (true to size)

The leather jacket is beautiful in person, sorry about the bad photo quality on the left but I wanted to show you a close up of the leather.  It’s not super soft but still a great quality leather and it does drape really nicely.  As always the sleeves were too long on me but nothing a little alteration wouldn’t be able to fix.  I didn’t get this since I did end up picking up the Vince jacket that you saw on me in my Nordstrom Anniversary shopping post but I did love it and price wise it’s pretty reasonable for a leather jacket.

TOP – SIZE XS (true to size)
JEANS – size 24 (runs big)

Shopping with me: Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

I finally made it to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.  I’m a card holder and I know I could’ve gone earlier but didn’t have a chance to go until now.  As much as I love online shopping, I wanted to go and try on stuff rather than order a bunch of stuff online.  I’m glad I did because I ended up finding a lot of stuff that I don’t think I would’ve spotted/liked online but I loved in person.  My SA was also super helpful and brought out a ton of clothes that I didn’t see so I was able to try on a lot.  I was in the dressing room for over an hour, this is only just a little bit of what I tried on!  She just kept on bringing me more and more stuff to try and I loved it!  Anyway, wanted to share the best of the bunch and the stuff I brought home with me.  I’ll list the sizing that I’m wearing so if you decide to buy online hopefully it will help you figure out which size is right for you.  All of the below are included in the sale so if you are interested, make sure to buy it now before the prices go up!
This moto jacket is basically to die for.  It’s gorgeous in person and just really luxurious feeling.  The tweed and the leather is such a great combo.  I didn’t end up getting it (you’ll see why a few photos down!) but it was certainly on the top of my loves list.  This cashmere cape is so FAB!  I love it and it’s so soft and warm.  I’m thinking it’s a little long on me so I may take it to alterations to get it shortened to fit my frame better.

JACKET – SIZE 0 (true to size)
CAPE – SIZE XXS (runs slightly big/long)

I’m in love with this butterfly top!  Equipment always makes the cutest blouses.  It looks great as is for the summer but will be super cute with a blazer for the fall.  I also love the lace details on this blouse.  It’s such a pretty top and will be so cute with my t+j Designs skirts.

BUTTERFLY TOP – SIZE 0 (true to size)
LACE TOP – SIZE XS (true to size)
JEANS – size 24 (runs big)

I tried to just shop for fall pieces but could not resist trying on this adorable dress.  It still may work for fall with this color scheme and I may pair it with a cardigan to see how I like it. I just love the shape of the dress, it’s super flattering on.  I didn’t see it in store but online I spotted the solid navy version which is just as cute.  I love that the model has it paired with boots.  This sleeveless top is a great print and love the double layer detail.  I’ve been really into navy lately so I think that’s why I liked it so much.

DRESS – SIZE XS (true to size)
TOP – SIZE XS (true to size)
JEANS – size 24 (runs big)

My SA brought me this top and at first I wasn’t so into it but after pairing it with some pieces I ended up loving it!  I paired it with the leather jacket on the right and loved it together.  But let’s talk about the jacket because it is GORGEOUS!  This is why I didn’t buy the moto jacket up top because I fell in love with this bad boy.  The leather is amazingly soft and drapes so well.  I don’t have anything in this pretty color and it’s the perfect fall color. I splurged on this piece as I think I will be wearing it a ton this fall.

TOP – SIZE XS (true to size)
LEATHER JACKET – SIZE XS (true to size)
I wouldn’t have picked out this sweater online or in person but when my SA brought it to me I figured I might as well try it on and it’s actually pretty cute!  I like the slouchiness paired with the boyfriend jeans.  And about the jeans – I’m a fan of distressed jeans and really liked the relaxed fit but I’m wearing my regular size (well I waiver between size 24 and size 25 for a lot of brands) and these were really baggy in the waist so I’d advise to size down.
SWEATER – SIZE XS (true to size)
JEANS – SIZE 25 (runs big)

I wanted to show you two pieces that didn’t work out for me because I did like them, they just didn’t work for my frame.  The Mackage coat is so cute if you are about 5 inches taller than me!  It was super overwhelming on my frame but I think on someone tall it would look amazing.  It’s wool and leather so is very warm and super chic for winter.  On the right is a cashmere cardigan by BOSS.  I loved the longer length.  There wasn’t an XS for me to try one (which is why I’m wearing the medium) but my SA did tell me that BOSS does tend to run big.  I’m going to keep my eye out for something similar as I think I will be needing a long cardigan like this for fall and winter.

COAT – SIZE XS (runs big/long)
JEANS – SIZE 25 (runs big)
CARDIGAN – SIZE M (runs big)
Just a side note that the distressed jeans that I’m wearing in most of these photos are mine (they are from American Eagle) I noted the jeans that I tried on from the sale.  I am planning on doing another post just on the jeans as I tried on as I tried on so many!  I will be sharing my favorite jeans on sale pretty soon.

Shopping with me: Nordstrom Sale!

Nordstrom was having a sale last week so I popped in and found lots of cute stuff!  Just wanted to share what I tried on and what I brought home!  Everything I tried on here is on sale except for the jeans.

This little eyelet top and  pink skirt was such a cute little outfit I had to bring it home!  I know that both pieces are really summery so that’s probably why they were on sale but I know they are pieces that I will get many wears out of!

TOP SKIRT

Here’s all the items I reviewed… click through to see more

I love comfy tees with a twist.  I LOVED these two.  The black one has a zipper detail on the side and the purple one is a high low style so you can go for the tucked in look but keep the back long.

BLACK TEE RIGHT TEE (only $9.90!)

This coral top is seriously my new fave.  I wore it out the day after I bought it! (Lookbook coming soon).  The back is sort of pleated – you have to look at the back view, it’s cute! The sleeveless blouse on the right is the perfect top for a casual day but can be so easily dressed up for the office too!

CORAL TEE under $20! SLEEVELESS BLOUSE

I have been seeing off the shoulder tops everywhere but haven’t tried one on.  I loved the print on this so had to try it out and I loved the look!  I will be adding more off the shoulder tops – I saw this one online after I got home and ordered it!  Love a casual blouse like the one on the right, I feel like when I’m lazy and heading out somewhere I always reach for a blouse like that to feel like I actually made an effort to getting dressed 🙂

The jeans I was wearing throughout are these ones.  Note that they are “crop” skinny jeans but on me they are just normal length.  Gotta love being a shorty! 🙂  I love them! I tried on a different pair (seen on the right with the purple blouse) – these high waisted jeans are super cute but I didn’t like the lighter color as much so I got the ones on the left.
And just a quick snap of what I wore shopping!  I mentioned this on instagram but I sprained my ankle a few weeks ago.  It was so bad that I was in a walking boot and I could not go to my planned trip to China with my sister.  🙁 sad times.  It’s on the mend now but still not great and I still have to wrap it but at least I don’t have to wear the walking boot anymore.  Anyway, this is my long story to tell you why I’ve been wearing flats so much!  I’m trying to rest my ankle as much as I can so no heels for now.  And if you are wondering, I was totally wearing flats when I sprained my ankle!  I was taking out the trash and missed a step and just twisted my ankle and fell.  Fun times. LOL!  I laugh about it now but it was not funny when I was there crying about my ankle!  Anyway – this dress is an old buy from Forever 21 (I know I’m even surprised at how long I’ve kept a Forever 21 piece!) but I love fit and flare dresses.  I’ve linked to a few below that I love and all are under $20!

Shopping with me: Sweaters and Shoes

It’s been awhile since I’ve done a dressing room post!  To be honest, I rarely go shopping these days.  I buy almost everything online and when I do go shopping I’m either with my girlfriends and we’re too busy chatting to actually spend time in the dressing room or I’m with my husband and daughter who don’t really have the patience for the time I take in the dressing room (I admit, I take a really long time).  Anyway… I got a chance to go out this past weekend and have some time for myself so I went shopping!  I’m forever a Nordstrom girl so it was my first stop.

They are doing a fab sale and I spotted a ton of Equipment tops on sale.  Equipment is one of my favorite brands as they mainly do pretty simple sweaters and blouses so everything is super easy to wear. The quality is great and it fits me just right.

I’m a fan of embellishments and love me a cashmere sweater so immediately grabbed this one.  I’m wearing the size small here and I’m okay with slightly big sweaters but with the embellishments I think it will look better fitted so the sales person found the XS at another store and it is on it’s way to me.

Embellished Sweater (Sold out on Nordstrom but found it at shopbop)

Shop the post (click through to see my reviews of these items!)

You can’t see the cute lace detailing on the back of the sweater but it is really pretty.  Equipment is basically known for their silk button downs. They fit really well (look no chest gap!) and are just really well made.  I own a few and love them so I couldn’t resist when I saw this one on sale.
Sweater | Blouse
You can’t tell but the stripes have a little bit of sparkle woven throughout.  So cute!  And the hearts sweater was a no brainer for me.  I love heart prints and on a cashmere sweater?  Sold!  The only thing is the heart print sweater is a size M (it was the last one left in the entire company) so I couldn’t get a size down.  I do like the slouchy look but compared the the stripe sweater which is an XS, it just fits me so much better and I would even prefer a small over a Medium but I think I can make it work.

These next pieces aren’t on sale but I just had to try them on.  First these Marc by Marc Jacobs sweaters.
I already posted this on my instagram but I had to show it again as the pink sweater perfectly matches my shoes!  I love this sweater and it’s so warm.  Funny enough, I own a lot of sweaters but none in pink!  I brought this home and plan on wearing it as much as I can while it’s still cold.  I love the floral sweater and the material is a really nice thick knit with almost a sheen to it.  If you are wondering, the jeans I’m wearing throughout the post are these from American Eagle.

I think Kate Spade always does a great job on details, like the sequin stars and the ruffle collar and sleeves.  I don’t have a photo of me in the ruffle sweater but it is really cute on and fits really nicely.  This one is on sale too!

Star Sweater | Ruffle Sweater
I just love the sequins but they only had a size small which didn’t fit right so I didn’t end up getting it.  I’m obsessed with ripped jeans lately so I tried on these Current Elliot jeans which were cute but not exactly what I’m looking for.  The black sweater looks like a blob here and it is supposed to be a very oversized sweater.  It looks a lot better in person.  I did end up getting it and am going to try to style it without it overwhelming me but we will see!
Sweater | Jeans | Sweater
I headed over to Barneys after Nordstrom and spotted these gray Louboutin pumps that I’m now obsessed with!  They are the Pigalle pumps which I already have in nude and they are one of my favorite styles.  I will say, they are super uncomfortable but so pretty on.
