Lookbook: Spray Paint

I’m not a sweatshirt kind of girl.  I really don’t own that many (and I only wear them to the gym) but when I saw this one on Gilt, it seemed like something I needed in my life.  And I was right!  I love it.  It’s a comfy little sweatshirt but doesn’t scream GYM CLOTHES.  Know what I mean?  I love the double row of buttons and that it zips to one side and not in the middle.

What I’m Wearing
Hoodie: Marc by Marc Jacobs via Gilt
Tank: from Aritzia
Jeans: Madewell
Shoes:Christian Louboutin Bianca
Earrings: gift from Marika King Jewelry
Ring: YSL

And funny enough, while wearing my spray paint printed sweatshirt, we actually were out spray painting!  And no I didn’t do that on purpose.

We had some candlesticks and other decorative items that we thrifted and spray painted them a new color (they were gold/brass before).  They add fun touches to our decor!  (I only wore my Louboutins to take this picture, I changed shoes to finish spray painting.  No Louboutins were harmed in the making of these photos.  haha!)

The Poof

vintage_gucci_bagvintage_gucci_bag

How to “poof” your hair without looking like Snooki. 😉

(the #’s correspond to the product list below)

  • Curl the bottom of your hair with a curling iron (#1), just for a slight curl (not necessary but I did for this look)
  • Using a rat tail comb (#3), divide the section at the top of your hair that you want to poof.
  • Spray that section, with dry shampoo to give it some texture.  I used this one which was gifted to me by Salon Grafix (#2) and it worked really well.  (as a side note, this dry shampoo does not work well to absorb oil for a “non hair wash day” but works great as a styling product – in my experience at least)
  • Tease the part of your hair – with the rat tail comb (#3) – that you want to pull up, paying attention to the underlayers to give it a bigger poof.
  • Clip the sides back with bobby pins (#4) at a slightly high part at the back of your head
  • Using a round barrel brush (#6), smooth out bumps and pull sightly to give the sides a bit of a poof.  I find that the round barrel brushes are easier to do that then a regular brush.
  • Gather the middle part that is teased and bobby pin to the same area as the sides are clipped to
  • Use the same comb (#3) that you tease with, gently pull out more hair, the more you pull, the bigger the poof will be so make sure not to pull too much!
  • I used about 6 or 7 bobby pins to hold up my hair so don’t be afraid to use as many as you need to make sure it’s secure!
  • Comb out your bangs and then use a bit of hairspray (#5) to hold everything together and you are good to go!
  • Add an “accent” bobby pin (#7) for some sparkle to your hair!

Products used:
1. T3 Bespoke Labs ‘Twirl’ Curling Iron (1 1/4″)
2. Salon Grafix Invisible Dry Spray Shampoo
3. Champion Rat Tail Comb 8″ Edged Back Wide Teeth
4. GOODY Bobbypins
5. Elnett Satin Strong Hold Hair Spray
6. Technique Thermal Round Brush with Tourmaline
7. Marc by Marc Jacobs Love, Marc Bobbies Hair Accessories

    Lookbook: Color combo

**Shop I am Style-ish is back open!  Only shoes this time but clothes will be added soon.**
Update: Everything has  SOLD!  You guys are fast!  thanks and will have more up hopefully next week!

Black, white and pink are one of those color combos that just always works.  When I first got this blazer, I knew I would pair it with pink but it took me awhile to actually put the outfit together!  Right before Martin & Osa closed I got two of these silk shirts, one in pink and one in yellow and for both shirts on their first wear I managed to spill on them.  On silk! So of course that meant dry cleaning them but it took me forever to go to the dry cleaners so they had been sitting in the bag for at least a month.  I finally got it back and wore this pink one and you know what I did that day?  Spilled on it!  UGH! Back to the “to be dry cleaned” bag!

    What I’m Wearing
    Blazer: Anthropologie
    Top: Martin & Osa
    Jeggings: Vince
    Shoes: Miu Miu
    Necklace: J Crew
    Ring: Gift from LuShae Jewelry
    anthropologie_blazer3

I recently had a reader ask me if you had to wear jeggings like leggings – making sure to cover the butt and while I generally do treat my jeggings like leggings, I don’t feel the need to have as long of a shirt/tunic to cover up.  I definitely think that it’s much more acceptable to wear jeggings as pants, especially if the jeggings have back pockets on them but one thing not to do is to tuck your tops into them.  That just won’t work!

Sarah from jewelryartdesigns.com let me choose a piece of jewelry from their fabulous website and I chose the “Pop Star 3” I love the wide gold band and the alternating CZ diamonds.  The black rings are from Forever 21 and my nail polish is OPI Jade is the New Black and You don’t know Jacques.

A blouse like this would be cute with this outfit too and love that shade of pink.  This top from Ann Taylor would be great under any blazer (check out the passion pink).  Discount alert! 20% off 2 or more full priced items, 30% off 3 or more full priced items. Vince Denim Legging
These are the ones I’m wearing and they are on sale for $98!!  Sizing wise, mine are a size 0 and they fit TTS

I really like Vince denim, the quality is excellent and I’ve worn mine so many times and they still fit perfectly like the first time I put them on.  I hate jeggings that stretch as it can become quite unattractive wearing baggy jeggings!  These zipper jeggings are on super 70% off sale!

    Miu Miu Studded-Heel Platform Pump
I want these so badly!  Crossing my fingers they will go on sale for the designer shoe sale which is coming up!  And on that note, I talked to my Nordstrom SA who informed me that the sale will be in early December so get ready for some major shoe shopping!!

You can still get the Look for Less version of my shoes here or here.

    Lookbook: Pinstripe

I bought this blazer I think over a year ago and finally got around to wearing it just now!  I can’t believe it’s taken me so long, I love it!  As I always say, fit is everything especially in a blazer and this one fits me so well in the shoulders and in the body.  I just rolled up the sleeves as I always do for a more casual look.

    What I’m Wearing
Blazer: Rag & Bone via Gilt
Top: Mystree – *Gift from PB&J Boutique
    Jeans: Naked & Famous
    Shoes: Christian Louboutin “Bianca”

Thank you also to Jennifer from gigishoponline.com for the pretty bangles!  If you can believe it the set came with even more bangles than I am wearing!  I love the color of these and they go with everything.  The best part is that they are only $12.99!  Love a good bargain on fun jewelry.  (These are called the “Berman Stacked Bracelets” – I can’t direct link to them.)

    vintage_gucci5
I found this lovely bag while antique shopping.  I have quite a few Gucci bags from the past few years but I think this vintage one is my favorite!  I just love the colors and the structure of the bag.  What a great find right?  If you are wondering I found it at Pacific Galleries which is my favorite antique mall in Seattle.  The place is huge and the vendors do such amazing things to their spaces.  It’s not just an antique mall it’s more like a showroom!  It’s so much fun going there but I usually have to commit to spending a few hours in there as I can never leave without looking at every single stall.

And don’t forget to check out their new shoe section!  I love these and would totally get them if they had them in my size!

These are one of my few pairs of jeans that are not skinny jeans.  I usually roll them up like this but let them down to wear over my very tall shoes!

    It’s our 2nd!

To my darling husband, you make me the happiest girl in the world.  Happy 2nd Anniversary!
photo by the amazing Punam Bean

My husband is my secret weapon behind this blog, not only does he take all the lookbook pictures, he gives me ideas for blog posts, he makes my headers, helps me make my pictures look pretty, encourages me and supports me and does anything that I ask and more.  Without him, I am Style-ish wouldn’t be the same.

For those of you that haven’t been reading since the beginning, I would love to share our wedding videos, filmed and created by my brother.  We have two because we officially got married in the Seattle courthouse before our destination wedding in Jamaica and the second video is the wedding in Jamaica.  We ran into a hurricane while we were down there and almost didn’t have the wedding!  You’ll see it all on the video. 🙂

We also did a photoshoot along with the first video, see them here.  And see our wedding pictures here.

Now I’m off to celebrate our 2nd anniversary!  XOXO

    Lookbook: B is for Bear

Happy Monday!  First the Anastasia Brow Kit giveaway winner is… Exteena!!  Please email me with your mailing address so I can get your prize to you!  Thanks to everyone that entered!  I am so grateful to have so many awesome readers and thank you all for your support.  Stay tuned for another giveaway soon!

Please excuse the weird colors and the ugly construction signs in my photos.  It was an icky dark day and I was heading out to dinner with a girlfriend so I just had J snap a quick picture and didn’t notice until I got home how bad the pictures were.  Oh well!  You win some you lose some.  But I wanted to post this outfit because there’s been so much talk about Rachel Zoe’s line for QVC and I joined the hype by buying this vest so wanted to share with you guys!

    What I’m Wearing
    Cardigan: Quiksilver
    Tank: Madewell
    Vest: Rachel Zoe for QVC
    Jeans: Madwell
    Boots: Roberto Del Carlo
    IMG_4885
    IMG_4887

As you can see, the vest is quite big and this is a XXS!  It’s really long on me, so I might take it to my tailor to get shortened but I’m debating that because then I’ll lose the pockets and I love pockets!  Other than the fit, I really love it.  The faux fur doesn’t look faux and it is insanely warm.  I am aware that it makes me look bigger than I am and that I look like a big furry bear but I think that’s just the way fur vests go.  I would recommend this for girls that are a bit taller than I am but even if you are my size I say go for it!  It’s one of the better faux fur vests that I’ve come across and especially for the price point (under $100!).

    IMG_4892
    IMG_4902
The boots that I mentioned in my Fall Buys post!  I have worn these several times now and they are awesome.  The heel isn’t too high so I can walk in them for hours and they keep my legs really really warm.  I promise to have better pictures of them soon since the ones above are kind of sucky.  But if you are thinking on splurging on a pair of boots, I highly recommend them!

    The Girly Project

It’s been awhile since I’ve done a photography post!  This project came to me a bit randomly as I was organizing my accessories one day.  I keep my bags and fine jewelry quite organized and I like to take things out once in awhile to check to see if anything needs cleaning or fixed and I also rotate out my winter bags with my summer bags etc… While I was doing that, I started noticing all the little details that made me love all my things and probably the reason why I bought them.  So, I brought my camera out and decided to capture all those details that I love and when I saw all the pictures together, I decided to call it the “girly project” since it’s all these things that I think us girly girls love and appreciate.  I’m thinking about printing these out and framing them to put in our bedroom just to add a fun girly touch to our room.  I think it will look really cute!
Anyway, here are the pictures and just some of the details that I love.  I want to note that I’m not trying to brag here about my material possessions.  All these things are years and years of collecting (except the Louboutins are new).  It just so happened that I was pulling these things out of my closet that day and they all happened to be recognizable name brands but I do think that’s also what attracts us to them right?

    Louboutintiffany&co_charmtiffany&cochanelLouis_VuittonLouis_vuitton_mini_lin
    louis_vuitton_cruise

Photography details: most of these were shot with this macro lens on a Canon 40D and some with the 50mm f/1.2L lens on a Canon 5D Mark II.  If you are looking for a cheaper alternative to that lens (it’s amazing, I love it) and you aren’t needing it for a lot of low light situations (i.e. you are not a wedding photographer) you can get this lens for a much better price and just as nice pictures!  Any other photography questions?  Ask here!

All were post processed in Photoshop using some kind of action from Totally Rad Actions.
